Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK)
Airport Information
(Glasgow, Scotland)
Known for being the fastest-growing airport in the whole of Scotland, Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) lies on the Firth of Clyde coast, just to the north of Ayr and south-west of Glasgow city. Next to Mainholm, Monkton, Prestwick, Rosemount and Wallacetown, Glasgow Prestwick Airport features a single terminal and is situated around 48 km / 30 miles south-west of the city centre.
Prestwick Airport currently serves well over two million passengers a year, travelling to more than 20 scheduled destinations and 10 holiday destinations throughout Europe. The facility is mainly served by budget airlines such as Bmi Baby and Ryanair, and cities featured include London, Donegal, Paris, Barcelona, Nice, Rome, Palma and Malaga among many others. Of particular interest, Glasgow Prestwick Airport is the only part of the UK where Elvis Presley has ever set foot, when his plane landed in the early sixties.
Although Glasgow Prestwick Airport is located a fair distance from Glasgow, there are good transport links with the city. These include regular buses, trains and taxis, which are able to travel along fast roads, such as the A77 and M77 motorway, passing Kilmarnock on the way.
Stagecoach Western Express Service X77 travels to Glasgow's central Buchanan Street and back every 30 minutes during peak times, while trains also run close to the airport terminal, travelling to and from central Glasgow. Edinburgh is also easy to reach using Glasgow's public transport network.
